Scott Dimmick - CrossroadsMy love for music goes back to when I was just a young kid in the Cub Scouts. I sang in a band called the Rad Dudes and Their Daddy-O’s. The group consisted of the Bova boys, Joey and Tony, their Dad, Gary, my brother, Bryan, my dad, Ron and me. We sang cool oldies songs like Surfin’ USA, Twist & Shout, Peggy Sue, and Not Your Steppin’ Stone. Obviously, we didn’t perform much more than for talent shows in and around the Simi Valley, CA area. I got my first set of drums for Christmas when I was about 8 years old. Yep, I was a drummer to start.

When I was 16 and a junior in high school, my family moved to Humble, Texas where my dad and I taught ourselves how to play the guitar. I also got a bass guitar for Christmas that year and taught myself how to play it. We used to sit out on the porch when there was a good lighting storm and play Have You Ever Seen The Rain. Some friends of mine put together a band for the school talent show where I played drums, we had two guitar players, a bass player, piano player, lead vocals, and some other “groupies” who sang backup. We played one song, American Pie, but we really got the 3,000+ size crowd singing along during the chorus. It was awesome!I loved performing and I was hooked.

It wasn’t long after school got out that summer that I wanted to put together another band, In Retrospect. I recruited some guys that I went to church with and we put together a 45 minute set of songs. We practiced hard that summer, in the blazing hot and very humid Texas weather. At the end of the summer we played for a local youth dance. It was more like a concert, since almost everyone just wanted to watch us play. It was great fun!

Scott Dimmick - CrossroadsThe day after that performance we moved back to good ol’ California. I quickly got together with a good friend of mine, Neil Adams, and we played together in his parents garage. We called ourselves the Mountain Toads. It was really fun, but we never performed.

The high school I went to was putting on an original play called Love In Haight, and me and a few other guys formed a band we called MDG and the John Does. MDG stood for “Mister Dead Guy” since we practiced and stored our equipment in my anatomy teacher’s classroom, where, you guessed it, we stacked our equipment right next to the cadaver in the storage room. For the play we were called the Mad Hatter’s since the play was a spin off of Alice in Wonderland, but with 13 sixties classic rock tunes as the score. The play wasn’t that great, but the music was a hit with everyone that attended and we even got our picture and a review in the local paper.

After high school I put together another band that I called In Retrospect. It consisted of my best friend, Warren Merritt, his little brother, Rob Merritt, Neil Adams and my friend Pablo Grado. I taught Warren how to play my bass guitar and Rob how to play the keyboard. We put together a bunch of songs to play for Warren’s dad’s 50th surprise birthday. We also played during a Road Show while the judges tallied the votes for the various plays that were put on.

There was a two year period from February 1998 until February 2000 that I lived in Spain and did not perform in any kind of band, but I learned to love and appreciate the Spanish Flamenco style guitar.

Scott Dimmick - Crossroads

I have been playing with Crossroads since the Spring of 2000. Needless to say, I have enjoyed performing and seek every opportunity that presents itself to me to play. I hope you love listening to Crossroads as much as I love playing with them.
